Best time to visit Tanzania

Peak Season:

Dry seasons (June-October and December-March) offer optimal wildlife viewing with animals congregating around water sources, clear skies for Kilimanjaro climbs, and exceptional migration sightings, though with premium pricing.

Mid Season:

November and April-May transition periods bring fewer tourists and lower rates, with short rains creating lush landscapes great for photography, though some remote roads may become challenging.

Off Season:

Long rains (March-May) bring significant precipitation, occasional flooding in some areas, and limited visibility for Kilimanjaro climbs, but reward intrepid travelers with dramatically lower prices, newborn animals, and verdant landscapes.

Climate of Tanzania

Tanzania experiences diverse climates across its varied landscapes. The country generally follows two rainy seasons: the long rains (March-May) and short rains (November-December). Coastal regions maintain tropical warmth year-round with higher humidity, while the central plateau enjoys moderate temperatures with distinct wet and dry periods. The northern safari circuit experiences ideal conditions during the dry seasons (June-October and December-February) when wildlife congregates around water sources. Mount Kilimanjaro creates its own microclimate with freezing temperatures at higher elevations regardless of season. Zanzibar maintains warm temperatures year-round with higher rainfall during the rainy seasons.
