Best Time to Visit Costa Rica

Peak Season (December-April): Dry season with sunny days, minimal rainfall, and ideal conditions for beach activities, wildlife viewing, and exploring volcanoes. Expect higher prices, advance bookings required, and more tourists, especially during Christmas, New Year's, and Easter weeks.

Mid Season (May-June, November): Shoulder months offering good value with afternoon showers but plenty of sunshine, lush green landscapes, and fewer tourists. May-June features the transition to the rainy season with verdant scenery, while November sees the transition back to dry conditions.

Off Season (July-October): Green season with daily afternoon showers, occasional storms, and highest rainfall in September-October. Enjoy significantly lower prices, fewer crowds, lusher landscapes, and abundant wildlife viewing, though some remote areas may have limited access due to road conditions.

Climate of Costa Rica

Costa Rica enjoys a tropical climate with just two distinct seasons: dry (December-April) and rainy (May-November). Average temperatures range from 70-90°F (21-32°C) in coastal areas and 45-75°F (7-24°C) in mountainous regions. The Pacific coast is typically drier than the Caribbean side, which receives rain year-round. Microclimates vary significantly based on elevation and region, with rainforests, cloud forests, dry forests, and beaches all offering unique weather patterns. Hurricane season officially runs from June to November, though Costa Rica rarely experiences direct hits due to its geographical location.
