How to Reach Costa Rica

Easy Available Local Transport: Options include public buses connecting major towns (inexpensive but time-consuming), shared shuttle services between tourist destinations, domestic flights for longer distances, taxis for local travel, and rental cars (4x4 recommended) for independent exploration.

Metro System: San José has a limited public bus system but no formal metro. Most travel within the capital is by taxi, Uber, or public bus. For intercity travel, the public bus system is extensive and well-developed.

By Sea: Several cruise lines make port stops in Costa Rica at Limón (Caribbean) and Puntarenas (Pacific). Private yachts can dock at various marinas along both coasts.
